YARN WEIGHTS & SIZES

Yarn weight 0 is referred to as lace, fingering, or crochet thread. This is the lightest weight yarn and requires gentle handling as it breaks easily.

Size 0 yarn is used for dollies and lace designs.

Yarn weight 1 is referred to as superfine, or sock; also sometimes called baby or fingering.

Size 1 yarn is used in lightweight designs to make accessories & socks.

Yarn weight 2 is referred to as fine, or sport; occasionally referred to as baby.

Size 2 yarn is excellent for small items like socks, gloves, hats, or garments for babies and children.

Yarn weight 3 is referred to as light or DK.

Size 3 yarn is commonly used to make lighter knit or crochet items such as sweaters & light weight scarves.

Yarn weight 4 is referred to as medium, worsted, or Aran.

Size 4 yarn is versatile for a variety of projects – sweaters, rugs, blankets, hats, mittens.

Yarn weight 5 is referred to as bulky or chunky.

Size 5 yarn is used to make thicker rugs, jackets, blankets, and sweaters.

Yarn weight 6 is referred to as super bulky or super chunk.

Size 6 yarn is used to make heavy rugs, jackets, blankets, and thick sweaters

Yarn weight 7 is also referred to as jumbo or roving.

Size 7 yarn includes any yarn that is larger than Size 6 – Super Bulky.

This yarn is excellent for arm crochet/knitting & used to make blankets, rugs, baskets & other furnishings.
